Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony saw surges in game console sales ...

First off is Microsoft, which sold approximately 750,000 Xbox 360 consoles.? Recent console exclusive title releases such Halo 4 may have had something to do with the impressive sales figure?and evidently, 343i's take on Halo also helped the surge in Xbox LIVE subscriptions.? Impressive as it may be, that Microsoft sold 750K units of the Xbox 360, it is worth noting that last year?s Black Friday sale of Xboxes is actually higher?almost 250,000 more in 2011.

Sony had two consoles on the market that sold well during the Black Friday frenzy stretch.? According to Sony, 525,000 PlayStation 3 were sold from Nov. 18th to Nov. 24th.? The handheld Vita didn?t do too shabby either, as 160,000 units landed in the hands of gamers who wanted satisfy their habits on the go.? The Japanese-tech giant has been struggling recently?with a record $6.4bn in losses for the 2012 fiscal year?and is trying to restructure through projected cuts in operating costs, and pink slips to about 6% of its workforce (around 10,000 people).

Nintendo?s primary market is gaming, so Black Friday was generous to the Japanese console powerhouse.? The latest console from Nintendo sold 400,000 units?albeit, it is being sold at below manufacturing costs.? The Wii, if you want to consider it defunct, sold an impressive 300,000 units.? Its smaller counterpart, the Wii Mini, was only recently announced and will launch in Canada on December 7th?Canada will serve as a ?test? market for the network-less miniaturized Wii.

Two of Nintendo?s handheld, the DS and 3DS raked in 525,000 sales combined (DS with 275,000 and 3DS with 250,000).? In this particular niche, Nintendo has been dominating the rivaling PS Vita handheld console.

This is just a total guess, but a lot of the consoles purchased on or around Black Friday probably won?t see the spark of an electrical outlet until Christmas morning.

This 41-Channel Hyperspectral Camera Will Look Deep in the Heart of the Aurora Borealis

Auroras, which occur when charged solar particles pass through the thermosphere, are more than just polar eye candy—they offer tantalizing clues about the inner workings of our planet's relationship with its nearest star. Problem is, modern cameras can't provide the data granularity needed to view them properly without be outfitted with specialized optical filters. Otherwise, it's impossible to study specific ranges within the aurora's visible spectrum. More »

Living with HIV when one partner is positive and the other is negative

Two months after Maripaz Callejas? husband died of AIDS, she was diagnosed with HIV. One doctor told her that she would be dead within five years.

In Maripaz?s home country, El Salvador, many new HIV infections occur as a result of unprotected sex between couples who are married or living together. WHO estimates that globally as many as half of all HIV-positive people in long-term relationships have HIV-negative partners ? forming what are known as serodiscordant couples. It is estimated that half of people living with HIV still do not know that they are infected, and, like Maripaz, many people in relationships do not know their partner?s status.

Couples should get tested together

That is why WHO recommends that couples get tested for HIV ? and counselled ? together. Receiving voluntary HIV testing and counselling as a couple means that both partners get tested together, receive their results and share their status with the support of a counsellor. A range of prevention, treatment and support options can then be discussed and decided upon together.

Maripaz is now married to Moises Marinero. Moises was aware of Maripaz?s HIV-positive status from the beginning. Maripaz was reluctant to start a new relationship at first, but a counsellor told her that it was safe to have sex, provided she always used a condom. She has been on HIV medication, antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), since 2002. Today, she remains healthy and Moises is still HIV-negative.

Maripaz was fortunate that Moises knew that she was HIV-positive and how to protect himself.

Living together as a serodiscordant couple

Life was initially tougher for Godfrey and Paulina Mtonga of Lusaka, Zambia. The couple have now been married for 32 years. They have 11 children and 8 grandchildren. In 1994, they went for HIV testing together. Godfrey was positive and Paulina negative.

?The first week was very bad for us,? Godfrey recalls. ?The counsellor came to visit us the very next day.? The counsellor kept coming, and the couple decided to stay together. They continued to have a sexual relationship, using condoms from a nearby clinic. Godfrey started taking antiretroviral treatment in 2002. Pauline has remained HIV-negative.

Godfrey Mtonga?s advice to everyone is to get tested. ?If you are positive, love each other and take your medicine at the right time. We have lived with our status as a discordant couple for the past 18 years because we support each other.?

Some countries?such as Kenya, Rwanda, Thailand, Zambia and others?have already introduced HIV testing and counselling for couples with a view to helping them support one another. Couples testing can be provided as part of pregnancy care or other health services, in peoples? homes and as part of outreach testing in communities, as well as in voluntary testing and counselling sites.

New guidance on couples HIV testing and counselling

In addition to correct and consistent use of condoms, counsellors may suggest that the HIV-positive partner take antiretroviral drugs, regardless of his or her immune status. Studies show that this can both keep the positive partner healthier for longer, and reduce the risk they will pass the virus to their loved one. This finding prompted WHO to issue new guidance on couples HIV testing and counselling in April 2012 ? including antiretroviral therapy for treatment and prevention in serodiscordant couples.

In addition to Zambia, which has recommended early ARVs for the positive partner in a serodiscordant couple since 2010, other countries?including Canada, China, Kenya and many in western Europe?currently recommend or are considering the use of ARVs to reduce HIV transmission in serodiscordant couples.

NWAS Abroad: Detailing Day at Matrix Integrated | Northwest Auto ...

Ever since we expanded into our new space in Lynnwood we?ve become quite comfortable with our little corner of automotive nirvana. Despite being a bit farther out from Seattle proper than some clients may like, the workflow has been consistent, busy, and booked out. So booked out, in fact, that we?ve been getting requests from interested parties outside of Washington & even the US that want to experience the full NWAS treatment. We?re not a franchise, and by most industry standards we?re still a very small shop, so requests to work abroad whether they?re in Oregon or Dubai, are handled with the utmost care!

For our most recent Detailing Day abroad, proximity was priority. After lining up a variety of automobiles and the most intensive?automotive reconditioning ever thought physically possible for one incredible day only, we designated Matrix Integrated as our rally point bravo and got to packing supplies in the van.

Just ahead of us was 3 hours of driving and nearly 200 miles to cover in what turned out to be one of the hottest days on record history.

Good thing we brought fans.

Matrix Integrated is an easy spot to miss if you?re not sure what you?re looking for. It sits unassumingly tucked away right off SW Macadam Ave., looking like any standard old warehouse,?lending a low profile to the German powerhouses that hide right behind the big bay doors.

Given their Bavarian specialties, Matrix Integrated was the perfect locale for what turned out to be a primarily German detail day. The stacked roster had us washing, waxing, vacuuming and wiping down a handful of Audi A3s, an A6, a beautiful Suzuka Grey R8, a VW Jetta, and a couple prized Porsches (including one from the Matrix Integrated stable, rounding out 8 vehicles in total.) Each vehicle scheduled was receiving a service similar to the one that preceded it (mostly Enthusiast Details with a few twists thrown in); so with our buckets soaped and rotaries whirring away we began a seemingly endless assembly line of detailing. To give our readers a better idea of the full experience, we produced a montage for your viewing pleasure ? check it out!

First up for the day was a tastefully customized Audi A3 sporting a number of carbon fiber goodies, aftermarket wheels, and a killer set of red Recaro racing buckets.

After a quick interior & exterior clean up, Myron breezed through the single stage polish and we moved the A3 back street-side for an after shot before pickup.

The car pushing up the most factory power for the day had to be the Suzuka Grey ?VEETEN? Audi R8. As you can see, Blake took his time finishing out the R8 making sure no spot was left untouched!

The assembly line was going full steam. Tag-team polishing & wax applications galore kept the whole process flowing smoothly and helped us to turn out results with ease despite the intense, dry, heat.

Here?s an example of the workflow in action. A Matrix Porsche & a white A6 are amidst their detailing treatments while a silver 911 waits in queue before Blake & Solomon can begin the reconditioning process.

Once the silver Porsche had been completed, we pulled the white A6 forward so Myron could start buffing it out.

Scratches & marring were pretty apparent with the little VW, easy to spot even for a car with white paint!

The size of Matrix Integrated is beyond deceiving. While it does seem to just be a rather large warehouse from the street, the interior houses a seemingly endless garage containing many an auto, from project cars to track beasts, and restorations in progress.

While the team was focusing their efforts on the lineup, Danny sneaked off to the farther reaches of the Matrix Integrated to see what he could spot lurking in the shadows.

Turbos, Cabrios, Coraddos and even one lonely BMW SUV sat tucked back in the far corners of the warehouse just begging to have their legs stretched.

Since most everything we cleaned up was from the new millennium, it was nice to spot a few classics like this early 70s 912 rocking Bosch fogs.

Back out in the summer sun, Curtis started on the Matrix 997?s hand wash.

Cleaning ?em is one thing, but working on ?em is a whole different animal. Only at a place like Matrix Integrated would you be able to see a fully exposed Audi 4.2L V8 from under the hood of an S4 sitting nonchalantly near a Porsche GT2 on a lift with the wheels off. Suspension upgrades? Beefier cooling systems? One can only begin to imagine what was in store?

As you can see from the time-lapse footage in the video montage, the final A6 was a full team effort. Everyone pitched in to get the car completed on-schedule & before the customer arrived for pickup.

As we started to wrap up for the day and began packing the van, we made good use of the lingering heat by laying out all the wash supplies so they could dry out in the bit of remaining Portland sun.

With a journey ahead of us, the team piled in with some snacks for the road, popped Fast 5 in the dvd player, and settled in. It?s always a great experience to get out and do what we do best for clients out of state, and we?re already looking forward to our next detailing destination!

Are you a business owner, club organizer, or individual interested in an NWAS group Detail Day? Send us an inquiry with more information, and we could be paying you a visit for our next adventure abroad.

(AP) ? Clothing is king in Bangladesh, a country that exports more garments than any other in the world except China. It is responsible for four out of every five export dollars and has turned factory owners into members of parliament and leaders of sports clubs.

That strength has often been turned against the workers in those factories, especially those who complain about poor working conditions and pay that can be less than $40 a month. A law-enforcement agency called the Industrial Police is specifically assigned to deal with unrest in factories, and labor activists accuse government forces of killing one of their leaders. Employees are barred by law from forming trade unions, even though Bangladesh allows workers in other industries to unionize.

Workers hope that could change following the industry's latest tragedy, a fire Saturday that killed 112 people at a factory that made T-shirts and polo shirts for Wal-Mart and other retailers around the world. But they have their doubts.

"The owners must treat the workers with respect. They should care about their lives and they must keep in mind that they are human beings. They have families, parents and children," said Nazma Akhter, president of Combined Garment Workers Federation. "Is there anybody to really pay any heed to our words?"

There have been many garment-factory fires in Bangladesh ? since 2006, more than 300 people have died. But Saturday's was by far the deadliest, and has drawn international attention to labor practices as the government tries to encourage Western countries and companies to expand their relationships here.

The Tazreen Fashions Ltd. factory had no emergency exit, and workers trying to flee found the main exit locked. Fire extinguishers were left unused, either because they didn't work or workers didn't know how to use them. One survivor said that after the fire alarm went off, managers told workers to get back to work.

In an interview published Tuesday in Dhaka's Daily Star newspaper, the managing director of Tazreen Fashions expressed concern ? about possibly losing foreign buyers. "I'm concerned that my business with them will be hampered," said Delwar Hossain. But there was no mention in the article of concern for victims or their families.

Tazreen has not responded to repeated requests from AP for comment.

Bangladesh's $20 billion-a-year garment industry accounts for 80 percent of its total export earnings and contributes a major share of the country's $110 billion GDP. This from an export market created only in 1978, with a consignment for 10,000 men's shirts.

By 1982, the country had 47 readymade garment factories. In three years the number rose to 587. Now it has more than 4,000.

The factory owners are a powerful group, holding parliamentary posts in both major parties. The head of the prominent Dhaka sports club Mohamedan is in the business; so is a former president of the national cricket board.

An important reason for their success is cheap labor. Almost a third of the South Asian country of 150 million lives in extreme poverty.

The minimum wage for a garment worker is 3,000 takas ($38) a month, after being nearly doubled this year following violent protests by workers. According to the World Bank, the per capita income in Bangladesh was about $64 a month in 2011.

On Tuesday, as Bangladesh held a day of mourning for the dead, 10,000 people, including relatives and colleagues, gathered near the site of Saturday's blaze, many wearing black badges as a sign of mourning. Security forces were deployed, but no clashes were reported.

"I've lost my son and the only member to earn for the family," said Nilufar Khatoon, the mother of a worker who died. "What shall I do now?"

The country's factories were closed as a mark of respect, and prayers for the dead were held in places of worship across the Muslim-majority South Asian nation. The national flag flew at half-staff in government buildings.

Authorities buried 51 unidentified bodies in a grave outside Dhaka. Many of the dead were charred beyond recognition. Some other bodies were buried in the same grave Monday.

Also Tuesday, about 2,000 members of 14 labor organizations held a rally in central Dhaka where leaders accused the government of neglecting the rights of garment workers.

About 15,000 workers protested a day earlier near the burned factory to demand better safety.

The factory itself is gutted. Its eight floors are littered with burned clothes, yarn, machinery and furniture. Broken windows and black ashes are scattered on the floors and staircases.

Authorities have formed three committees to look into the incident. An industry group has suggested that sabotage may be to blame, though fire officials have said it was not the fire itself, but the poor safety measures that caused the high death toll.

"It was complete darkness," said Mohammad Zakir Hossain, a Tazreen worker who survived the fire. "I couldn't see anything but I started moving forward. I can hear shouts from many of my colleagues in the darkness, 'Oh Allah, save me, save me.'"

Hossain says he was making 4,500 takas ($55) a month, plus about 30 takas (37 cents) an hour in overtime.

Wal-Mart has said the Tazreen factory was making clothes for the retail giant without its knowledge. Wal-Mart, which had received an audit deeming the factory "high risk" last year, said it had decided to stop doing business with Tazreen, but that a supplier subcontracted work to the factory anyway. Wal-Mart said it stopped working with that supplier on Monday.

Wal-Mart and other companies linked to the factory's products have expressed sympathy for the victims and a commitment to improving worker safety.

The European Union's delegation to Bangladesh said while it recognizes the importance of the garment industry to the local economy and European consumers, "the EU has always been very clear about the need to improve working standards and safety in this sector."

Dan Mozena, the U.S. ambassador to Bangladesh, also expressed his concern over labor rights and warned that any chaos in the sector could drive global brands away.

The United States and even many global buyers have been pressing Bangladesh to allow garment factories to form trade unions, but the government and industry have resisted.

The industry fell under more pressure after a labor leader was killed in April, his body found in a roadside ditch. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton raised concern about the killing, and workers' rights issues overall, during a visit to Bangladesh the following month.

Aminul Islam had complained before his death about police harassment, wiretapping and even being abducted and tortured, allegedly by a domestic intelligence agency. Authorities are investigating his death but have revealed nothing about their progress. Meanwhile, the leading Bengali-language Prothom Alo newspaper recently reported, citing an anonymous source, that top officials of the National Security Intelligence had regular contact with the main suspect before and after Islam's death.

Even as it fends off criticism, Bangladesh is seeking more business from the West, including pressing the United States for quota-free and duty-free access for its garment products to the U.S. market.

Earlier this month, senior executives from more than two dozen global brands and retailers visited Bangladesh in a bid to forge long-term agreements to source garments from its factories.

In September, Karl-Johan Persson, chief executive of the Swedish retail chain H&M, visited Bangladesh and said his 2,600-store group would increase its business relationship with the country.

Mustafizur Rahman, executive director of the Center for Policy Dialogue, Bangladesh's leading independent think tank, said there is "hypocrisy" among buyers who "talk about ethical buying and ethical sourcing, but when it comes to price they refuse to offer a good rate. They often go to less compliant factories for a cheaper rate. Being compliant is not cheap."

At the same time, Rahman said Saturday's fire "highlights inner weaknesses of a giant industry very essential for the country's survival."

"This has come as a strong warning," he said. "But it was too costly."

Phil Robertson, deputy director of Human Rights Watch's Asia division, blames a "nexus of influence" between senior government officials and factory owners that "allows impunity to flourish." Until that changes, he said, government vows to improve safety should be treated with skepticism.

"Six months or eight months down the road, if history is any indication, we will have another factory fire, and more workers will be killed," he said.

Yingli's losses mount as prices remain weak

(Reuters) - Chinese solar panel makers Yingli Green Energy Holding Co and JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd joined rivals in saying that they would turn to their domestic market to drive shipment growth in the face of steep U.S. import duties and a slump in panel prices.

Yingli expects shipments to grow rapidly in markets like China in the fourth quarter, while JA Solar said it was making inroads into Australia, Southeast Asia and South America.

JA Solar's third-quarter shipments to China doubled from the preceding quarter. China contributed 28 percent to Yingli's quarterly revenue, compared to 14 percent in the second quarter.

Rival JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd earlier this month said half of its 2013 revenue would come from China.

China has launched a number of incentive programs to prop its flailing solar industry and in August hiked its 2015 target for solar power capacity by 40 percent to about 21 gigawatts (GW), the third increase in just over a year.

The United States earlier this month approved tariffs on imports from most top Chinese solar equipment manufacturers, including Yingli and JA Solar.

The European Union is looking at imposing similar duties and has launched an investigation into alleged state subsidies for Chinese solar panel manufacturers.

These developments in top market Europe and the United States come at an unfortunate time for Chinese solar companies, whose margins have nearly disappeared due to a sharp fall in prices.

Prices have plunged 75 percent in the last four years on weak demand from Europe and rapid capacity expansion.

BETTING ON POWER PLANTS

Yingli also said it would ship 200 megawatt (MW) of modules to a utility scale project in Imperial County, California, being developed by Centinela Solar Energy LLC.

Solar companies are turning to the more lucrative business of developing large solar power plants that will be powered by their panels, as pure panel manufacturing remains highly unprofitable.

Rivals Trina Solar Ltd and Canadian Solar Inc have also said they are turning their focus to utility-type solar projects.

JA Solar, which consolidated its American Depositary Shares (ADS) last week to avoid delisting from the Nasdaq, said it expects total cell and module shipments to be between 380 megawatt (MW) and 420 MW in the fourth quarter, compared with 418 MW in the third.

The company narrowed its full-year shipment outlook to between 1.55 GW and 1.65 GW, from 1.5 GW to 1.8 GW.

The bleak shipment forecast comes days after rivals Trina Solar and Canadian Solar cut their full-year forecast for solar panel shipments.

Shares of Yingli, valued at about $218 million, closed at $1.43 on Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange. Shares of JA Solar, valued at about $132 million, closed at 65 cents.

Yingli shares have lost nearly two-thirds of their value this year, while those of JA Solar have more than halved.

DrCredit Educates Consumers Regarding Personal Loans | Finance

(PRWEB) November 23, 2012

DrCredit, the online loan service, announced today that conventional personal loans are available online to help cash-strapped consumers in a tough economy. DrCredit, an online service that offers $ 500 to $ 5000 loans brought directly to the consumer through an online application process, can produce multiple online loan offers in a matter of hours.

In an economy of continued volatility and unemployment, many people are finding it harder to get the personal loans they need to get to the end of the month. Further more they say, large lending institutions are closing their doors on consumers who need help. This negative attitude is not aimed only at consumers but small businesses as well.

DrCredit believes consumers should get the level of service they want when they apply for a loan. According to DrCredit, Many personal loan plans are available to consumers who can name a reason they want a loan and match it against personal loans plans that looks inviting.

A personal loan serves long-term needs like home or auto repairs. Cash to take a much needed vacation is a perfectly understandable reason to apply. Most large institutions will not give out unsecured personal loans today without an astonishing interest rate and fees attached.

With new online applications, getting a personal loan is simple, according to DrCredit. There are fewer inconveniences in applying online. Applicants don?t have to drive to the bank. Applicants won?t have to get in line or wait in suspense for an answer or receive a check that they must cash before the money is in the hand.

Consumers must provide only a small amount of information on the DrCredit application and that speeds up the processing time, according to representatives. Personal loans represent hope for trying financial situations. DrCredit says the loans can be used for anything, utility bills, mortgage payment, school supplies or walking around money to get borrowers through payday.

The application form is simple to fill out. The DrCredit website questions for an applicant?s name, address and social security number. Applicants must verify income and provide a checking account number before the money can be deposited, and that?s as much information as applicants are questioned to provide. DrCredit considers a consumer?s application and loans money based on statements of income.

The Personal loan can be used for major buys like buying a car. A personal loan can finance that long-overdue vacation. Debt consolidation is a terrific reason to use personal loans. Sources say loans are simple to apply for today because of the Internet. With the level of today?s technology, shopping for personal loans has become painless.

The stakes in taking out a loan are high for both the borrower and the lender. The lender faces the reality that even the best credit rating does not guarantee a borrower will not default on a loan, and a borrower puts their credit score on the line whenever they take out a loan, according to DrCredit. A loan with collateral, like a home, makes the choice to lend to a borrower simpler.

DrCredit says borrowers do not have to place up collateral to qualify for a personal loan, but the bank would likely charge a high interest rate without the collateral. Lenders also offer bonuses and extra incentives to lure borrowers into financial agreements. A borrower would be wise to use common sense when applying for a personal loan. DrCredit says borrowers should measure future gain against small-term gain even from a terrible credit personal loan in order to make a smart choice.

Special Education teachers are an aging population: Local schools ...

California is currently facing as shortage of qualified teachers ? including special education teachers ? according to an article printed in September on US News on NBCNews.com.

The article cited a report, ?Greatness by Design? released by the California Department of Education in September ? a report designed to help improve how teachers are recruited, trained and mentored ? that states ?there are still shortages of qualified teachers in fields such as special education.?

Dr. Pia Wong, department chair for the Department of Teaching Credentials and professor at California State University Sacramento, says one reason for the shortage is teachers retiring without anyone to fill their positions. ?When you look at the average age of teachers in special (education) and general education, it?s an aging population,? she explains. ?Based on when people typically do retire or can retire, we know in the next 10 years we?re going to see very high numbers of retirement.?

Another reason, says Dr. Wong, is a growth in the population of students who qualify for special education services due to better diagnostic processes. ?Because we have better tools for understanding the special needs that students have, there?s more students that are identified and therefore that creates a need for special programs, special classes, specialized teachers,? she says.

So what does this mean for Sacramento?

Inclusion Practice at SCUSD

In Sacramento City Unified School District, Director of Special Education Becky Bryant says there?s not a shortage of special education teachers overall, but there is a shortage in certain types of special education specialties, such as speech and language pathologists and occupational therapists.

Overall, Bryant says the amount of special education teachers they have is cyclical and will depend on the number of retirees they have each year and if there are new teachers coming to replace them. ?Because Sacramento is the capitol, we have a lot of people that kind of move in and out because they have to relocate or something,? she adds.

According to Bryant, SCUSD employs 260 special education teachers and serves 88 schools plus charter schools. She says there are resource specialist programs at all school sites, and throughout the district there are special day programs.

Bryant says SCUSD is in the third year of implementation of an Inclusive Practice program at six schools in the district ? C.K. McClatchy High School, California Middle School, Sutterville Elementary, Oak Ridge Elementary, Leataata Floyd Elementary, and Caleb Greenwood K-8 School. Through this model, says Bryant, students who would have been in a traditional special day class setting are now in general education, and the general educator and special education teacher co-teach together to provide instruction to all students in the classroom.

According to Bryant, Inclusive Practice helps teach students skills they will need when they become adults and enter into a diverse society, and it allows all students to learn together and be part of a community. ?It?s not about singling out students with disabilities and sending them somewhere else,? she adds.

Special Programs & Inclusion at SJUSD

Over at San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD), Dayle Cantrall, program manager for special education, believes that special education is a growing need because there is not always a pool of credentialed teachers at the ready to fill any holes they may have. ?When we have credentialed teachers, they usually end up in a job and they stay ? they don?t face layoffs like general education teachers do, they?re always in high demand,? she adds.

According to Cantrall, SJUSD currently employs 307 special education teachers, including speech therapists and adaptive PE teachers. She says there is at a minimum a half-time resource teacher at every school site, and some high schools have upwards to nine special education teachers at a school site. And special education students range from those that need speech therapy to specialized programs for severe autism and the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Cantrall says recent changes in special education programs at SJUSD include specialized programming for severe autism students and a new transition center for kids ages 18-22 this year.

Additionally, there are specialized inclusion programs from elementary through high school on a few campuses in the district, says Cantrall. ?We have support built into the particular campuses, including increased number of instructional assistants,? she explains. Plus some campuses also have the capability for a special education student to attend the same school as their brothers and sisters through the support of ?roving inclusion teachers? and resources teachers.

What It Takes

To help ensure there are qualified special education teachers for California schools, Dr. Wong says one thing CSUS has done is advocate for an admission cycle for the special education credential program every semester. Additionally, faculty has been active in securing grants from the federal government to help candidates interested in pursuing the special education credential.

For those considering becoming certified to become a special education teacher, Dr. Wong suggests they look into it by doing some research and visiting some classrooms. ?I think people may have certain preconceptions about what it means to teach students with special needs,? she explains. ?I think if they were to visit some classrooms, they would really see some positive, exciting things happen and maybe find it?s something that attracts them.?

Bryant says they look to hire special education teachers who have a passion for kids in general, and a passion to work with students with disabilities. ?(We look for) people who have a clear understanding of how to manage a classroom, how to motivate kids, and who are really willing to work on creating relationships with kids,? she adds.

And Cantrall says if you have a calling to work with at-risk kids, you?re not afraid to collaborate, think outside the box, and do what?s needed to meet the best interests of that child?s needs ? go for it. ?We need people in special education who are not only dedicated to kids, but dedicated to paving the way so those kids can continue to learn in the least restrictive environment possible,? she says.

In "The Big Fashionista: No More Guessing What To Wear", Mary Schneider, a professional image consultant shares with readers some basic yet essential secrets to looking great at any size, and getting ready for that special date or occasion. Don?t hide in oversized clothes that make you look as if you?re tenting, and don?t be tricked into wearing too-small things that resemble an over-stuffed sausage. Great fit, flattering cut and beautiful color can be yours, no matter what your size.

"That date, the one you?ve been looking forward to since he asked for your number, the date, is in less than a week. Atkin?s was a cholesterol-filled disaster, and all Weight Watchers watched were the same pounds you trimmed off bouncing right back on the rebound.

The large-bottom line? You?ve tried to lose those stubborn ten pounds, but like a bad penny, they keep turning up, spoiling your confidence, stealing your sense of being a sexy, modern woman and leaving you wishing you?d never heard the word date, let alone given that special someone your number!"
