DIY home improvement instant curb appeal for under 100What do people think when they drive by your house? That first impression is what designers refer to as curb appeal. From the mailbox to the front door to the window frames, curb appeal is what makes them stop and take a look. Giving your home that little something-something doesn?t have to break the budget. Curb appeal is one DIY home improvement you can add for little money. It takes just a few minutes of your weekend, but evokes a sign from everyone who drives down the road.

Add Some Contrast

Painting contrasting colors on the front of your home draws the eye without being overbearing. Areas to focus on include the front door, trim around the door, windows frames, and shutters. Paint these distinct areas with colors that complement each other, but contrast with the house. For example, you might paint the front door of the royal blue house sunny yellow, pick white for the trim and goldenrod for the shutters. The colors work together but still stand out. For a dual tone look, paint all the trim black on a white home. The only cost is time and some exterior paint.

Add Pizzazz to the Mailbox

Nothing looks worse than a dingy, rusting mailbox. If you can?t salvage the mailbox with some scouring pads and paint, then replace it with something eye-catching. ?The marketplace is full of designer everything these days, and mailboxes are no exception. Opt for designer colors like dark blue, black or red and make sure the hardware says classy.

Pick up a set of the artistic tiles and change out the house address numbers too for a little extra style.

Add Solar Lights

This project will take just minutes but make all the difference at night. Grab some of the inexpensive solar light posts at your local dollar store. Use them to line the front walk, under the windows and around the stoop. The lights contain photovoltaic panels that absorb sun all day. At dusk, they turn on automatically to brighten up your home. The lights cost very little, use no electricity and you simply push them into the dirt.

Curb appeal does more than make the house look nice. It adds equity and value to your property. Remember, this is the first thing anyone sees when coming to your home. Make the right impression from the start with some budget-friendly curb appeal.
